Tracey Hemingway-Wright made a post about her label printing operation and as I was commenting on it, I though maybe it’s better to go off on a tangent and not distract from her post with another rabbit hole… “Printed Lithium Metal Batteries.” (Essentially the label has a printed battery in it.)
I saw one of these the other week as part of a tracking device. So the label IS the tracking device and the battery all printed into one.
And not that I want to go down any more lithium battery rabbit holes than are already open But it does raise the question of lithium batteries contained in equipment vs. lithium batteries STUCK TO THE OUTSIDE OF A PACKAGE and PI967 or 970 (I assume these are primary batteries so 970) and the requirement for a “strong outer packaging….” to enclose this UN 38.3 tested battery well here’s another rabbit hole.
The IATA airline guidelines have a special provision A220 (there is no underlying UN SP associated with that) that specifically provides for COVID-19 (ah, the good old days) pharmaceuticals… but (a) this isn’t covid stuff and (b) how does it work with the “battery” stuck to the outside of the package?
